  NOTICE OF POSITION VACANCY   POSITION TITLE:               Academic Success Program (ASP) Evening Advisor   POSITION SUMMARY: The ASP Evening Advisor works collaboratively with the ASP Department Chair and other Adult Education Staff and is responsible for advising and enrolling students, conducting progress reports, monitoring and reviewing student academic progress and providing resources to assist students in goal attainment. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Reviews the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) results with individuals relating the results to the student goals, school history, and barriers or requirements for participation.
  2. Advises students on options available and assists students in setting achievable short-term and long-term educational and career goals.
  3. Conducts Student Enrollment session.
  4. Develops student learning plans including classroom schedules and assists students in setting, documenting, monitoring progress toward, and revising meaningful educational goals.
  5. Uses database and spreadsheets to register, enroll and manage student information.
  6. Provides students with access to information that supports the attainment of goals including HiSET registration, special accommodations for testing, post-secondary education enrollment and placement testing, and access to support services agencies in the community.
 
  1. Conducts progress reports and follow up with students including providing information to referring agencies when requested and releases of information allow.
  2. Maintains a high level of confidentiality when communicating with students and staff.
  3. Works closely with instructional staff to provide appropriate interventions for students who are struggling in the program.
  4. Other duties as assigned by the Director or the ABLE Department Chairperson.
  QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. BA in Education, guidance and counseling, psychology or human services preferred.
  2. Academic preparation including coursework in Adult Basic Education preferred.
  3. Experience in Adult Basic Education instruction and/or advising preferred.
  4. Case management experience preferred.
  5. Knowledge of community resources preferred.
  6. Experience in counseling out-of-school, at-risk youth, and/or nontraditional students preferred.
  7. Experience working with adults who possess barriers to learning including but not limited to drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, dysfunctional families, low self-esteem, homelessness and learning disabilities preferred.
  8. Ability to work with students, colleagues, and supervisors in a collaborative and professional manner required.
  9. Previous experience administering and interpreting standardized educational exams preferred.
  10. Previous experience working collaboratively with community agencies, residential programs, and educational organizations preferred.
  11. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task and work effectively in a busy and varied environment with limited supervision required.
  12. Previous experience utilizing technology as an integrated tool for learning, communication and record keeping.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:           Compensation is at the rate of $28 per instructional hour and $24 per hour for professional development.  Approximately 5-10 hours a week, Monday through Thursday.  Hours vary and start between 5:15-6 pm and end between 7:30-8 pm.  Grant-funded position.   IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:           Adult Education Director   STARTING DATE:                              September 11, 2017   DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION:    Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 4pm   APPLICATION PROCEDURES:                       Submit the following:
